“Who would have ever thought that we’d have Cornish gig rowing on the river Thames?”
A phase that I hear often when people discover the work and endeavours of the London Cornish Pilot Gig Club. And now do we not only have one home, but two in our countries capital. Gig rowing is well and truly part of Kernow in the City.
But it’s not the only thing Cornish that’s going on this weekend in London, oh no!
Kernow in the City is London’s annual celebration of Cornish contemporary culture and entertainment featuring live music, poetry, Cornish ale and food. Now in it’s eighth year, this popular event will bring together the capital’s Cornish and Celtic communities, and curious Londoners alike to champion the best of Cornwall, fuelled by Skinner’s ale and Warrens pasties lovingly baked in the Duchy.
We will naturally be there to soak up the Cornish spirit, talk to people about the club, and I’m sure we’ll partake in a beverage or two.
We’ll be holding an open day for the club at the London Regatta Centre, Royal Albert Docks, the following Saturday (11th March). It would be great to have as many of you folks there (Cornish or not!).
